Most Beautiful Village in France | Wedding Photographer Gordes – La Bastide

There is this magical place, on a magical hill, in the south of France, that’s very famous. Featured in glossy travel magazines, this village has been named one of the most beautiful villages in all of France.

The first time I visited the village of Gordes was in the late afternoon. The sunlight was pretty, but while it was gorgeous, for some reason I did not fall in love with it like I expected. It’s incredibly impressive, a sight to see, not far from Avignon.

First, a little geography. Gordes is surrounded by a group of mountains and hills, this valley is known as the Luberon. Like many towns and villages in France, Gordes was once occupied by the Romans. Indeed, lots of Roman remains have been found in the region.

Now the area is famous mostly for tourism, but people actually do live in the village still, and the weekly market occurs on Tuesday mornings when merchants from the area set up booths and sell food, clothing, decorations and even handicrafts.

One of the loveliest places to get married in all of France is the 5-star hotel called Airelles Gordes La Bastide. The hotel used to be a stately home, so it has all the amenities of a fine hotel, but the comfort of home. In fact, it’s meant for both couples and families alike, with stunning views of Gordes and its own beautiful pool. Just looking at photos of this gorgeous place will make you feel calm and tranquil.

I can’t think of a more stunning location for a wedding in Gordes, Airelles Gordes La Bastide is perfect for small to medium sized intimate weddings.

For this editorial, I arrived in Gordes at sunrise, driving through some of the prettiest countryside in all of France. This bridal editorial was like a dream come true. As the sun rose over the mountains, a hot air balloon could be seen in the distance. I was transfixed with the view, it literally looked like something out of a painting.

Like a painter with a paint brush, today my paint brush would be my camera, as I capture gorgeous wedding images of Arnaud and Christine, both from Marseille. Christine’s dramatic red hair was stunning against the sunrise. Her dress was simple, yet elegant, and Arnaud’s suit was absolutely dashing. However, his very best accessory was his smile, which literally lit up the village every time he smiled.

We began at the entrance of Gordes, on a steep hill overlooking this fabled village as the sun came up. Some mountain bikers passed by I worked, I admired them for their fitness and for the gorgeous view they were treated to in the early morning.

If I thought that view was stunning, I’d seen nothing yet. As we walked around the village, each view was prettier than the next and at one point I think I exclaimed, “This place can’t be real”! Quaint architecture as well as cute little shops dot the village. You’ll also find charming walkways, lots of flowers and there’s also hiking in the nearby hills, as well as many other tourist attractions.

I spent the morning in Gordes and wasn’t ready to leave, our wedding couple was still going strong, but now the sun was becoming a bit too harsh. We celebrated a gorgeous morning in Gordes with snacks and drinks at a nearby café. It was an incredible day with an incredible team of professionals.
