PARIS RAIN, WILL MY SESSION BE A WASHOUT?
Oh no! You’re coming to Paris and it’s supposed to rain! What to do? Do you need to cancel? Reschedule? Rescheduling is often difficult based on schedules, and canceling? No, you don’t want to cancel, you’re in Paris!
Hollywood movies and TV shows (yes, Emily, I’m taking about you) are shot in Paris in summer, where there’s a higher probability of sun (but still not guaranteed). Therefore, when we see Paris and have an idea of Paris, we think of bright, sunny skies and puffy clouds. Yes, this can happen, mostly in summer, but Paris is famous for being dark, rainy and gray much of the year. The weather is similar to London’s. Paris doesn’t often get heavy soaking rains, either. It’s usually the steady or light variety.
What do you do if rain is forecast? Carry an umbrella! Preferably, a clear one, so we have maximum light on your faces, and can see the monuments, such as the Eiffel Tower, behind you. You can buy a clear umbrella on Amazon before you even leave for your trip to Paris, or you can find clear umbrellas in department stores (Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, BHV, etc), supermarkets like Monoprix (which are everywhere) and souvenir shops, anywhere that sells umbrellas.
BUT WON’T RAIN RUIN THE PHOTOS?
No, not at all! In fact, rain lends a mysterious, romantic atmosphere and allows you to cuddle up with the one you love. Romantic, rainy Paris couples photos? Most people would love to have that experience! While rain isn’t always pleasant to be out in, I’ll be honest (and its double tricky for me because I have to hold a camera and and umbrella to keep my gear dry), some of my most memorable work has been in the rain.
You know the other bonus? Less people are out in the rain, and you often have Paris to yourselves!
DON’T FEAR THE RAIN, IT’S JUST WATER!
Don’t fear the rain in Paris, embrace it as a unique and wonderful opportunity to capture your love story.
Still want sun and no rain? A better bet then is to go to the south of France. Take a trip down to Provence on the high speed train or Nice. You’re more likely to have sun!
